Department Ayurved Samhita & Siddhanta

Ayurved Samhita & Siddhanta department is the first and the most important Department of Ayurveda.It imparts the knowledge and understanding of basic principles (philosophical fundamentals) which are described in classical texts i.e. Ayurved Samhitas like Panchamahabhut, Tridosha Siddhanta, diagnostic and treatment principles.The term Samhita in the context of Ayurved indicates the " Classical Medical Treatises of India ".

Samhitas are in Sanskrit language which is divine language, hence to understand the samhita in their true meanings Sanskrit is also taught by this department along with samhitas (classical texts) in detail. Curricular details in all subjects of UG & PG courses are ultimately derived from ancient Samhitas only.

Basic Principle is very important in Ayurveda without knowledge of which we can’t understand & practice Ayurved.This department initiates the beginners into the scientific foundation of Ayurvedic knowledge base & motivates the students to apply basic principles of Ayurved into clinical practice. The Subjects included in this department are Sanskrit, Padartha Vidnyana and Ayurved Itihas, Maulik Siddhant and Ashtang Hrudayam & Charak Samhita. Padarth Vigyan provides the basic knowledge about the evolution of the Ayurveda from Indian Philosophy.

Understanding human body with concept of soul and mind, Universe & Body interrelationship, principles of treatment is the aim of this subject.This department is related with all academic years of B.A.M.S. Hence it is the nodal department.

To uphold the Basic Principles of Ayurveda in order to propagate health and wellbeing worldwide. Objectives :-

4. In addition to typical pattern of teaching & learning, students are made to ask Questions / Sutras / Shlokas to each other in competing way, in verbal tutorial.

Department of Rachna Sharir

The Department of Rachna Sharir stands as of the important Pillar of basic Principles of Ayurveda. It is dealing with the study sharirsthan, basic texts and treatise of sage like Sushruta Samhita, Charaka Samhita, Ashatanga Hridya, major topics such as structure of the Human Body including Embryology (Garbha Sharir), Histology ( Sukshma Sharir) Anthropometry ( Pramaan Sharir) , Genetic ( Anuvanshikatwa) , Marma Sharir etc as Per Ayurved and Modern Science.


Museum –

The museum of the department is well maintained and it consists of abundant specimens of organs, model and charts for practical learning of the internal and external structures of the human body.


Dissection Hall –

The dissection hall of department is spacious and fully equipped. It has preservation tank, Cadaver Dissection, Specimen Preparation and Surface Anatomy.

Department of Kriya Sharir

Sharir Kriya is the science, which deals with the study of the human body in relation to its Physiological norms. ‘Sharir Kriya’ deals with the study of the normal functions of the body. The whole purpose of Kriya Sharir is to explore the normal functions of the living organism, their principles, their mechanism and their actions.

Ayurved is concepts of Sharir Kriya deals with the functions of Dosh, Dhatu, and Malas. According to the Ayurveda, every individual is a unique entity for knowing this uniqueness of every individual ‘Prakriti Parikshan’ is essential. ‘Prakriti Parikshan’ is the analysis of body and mind.

Department of Sharira Kriya (Physiology)

Department of Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana

Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana is a branch which deals with Ayurvedic pharmaceuticals. The subject explains about the herbo mineral medicines, their mode of actions and therapeutic uses. The aim of this branch is to make formulation by using more potent herbs and minerals in their lesser dosage and prepare good quality of medicine.

Museum:

The museum of the department consists of various drug samples. Specimen of rasa dravyas and bhaishajya dravyas are grouped appropriately and sequentially displayed in the museum. Yantra, puta models are displayed with their description which are regularly used for demonstration purpose for students.

·         Well designed rasa shastra and bhaishajya kalpana lab with different types of equipments required for the practical

·         Separate puta bhavana where different types of pit are built which are used for preparation of bhasmas. The kupipakva bhatti is designed for the preparation of kupipakva rasayana.

·         Well equipped teaching pharmacy. The medicines are prepared under hygiene condition and dispersed to the college hospital.

·         Well equipped quality control laboratory with different instruments like Ph meter, muffle furnace, disintegration apparatus, friability test apparatus, distillation apparatus, abbe refractometer which are used for quality testing of medicine prepared in the department.

Department of Rog-Nidan Evam Vikriti Vigyan

Rognidan And Vikruti Vigyan comprises the basic concepts of the disease and general as well as systematic methods of examination of patient. It also comprises the systemic pathology and the description of all the diseases.

                        The disease is the product of unwholesome interaction of man with his environment mediated through an altered sequence of events in tridosika rhythm , dosa-dhatu(dusya) combustion, biofire(agni) deficits and loss of the integrity of internal transport system of the body, the srotamsi. Disease diagnosis is must before any treatment in any system of medicine. The methods of examination, assessment criteria may vary from system to system or may depend on the physician based on his/her clinical experience. Before that, a scholar or student must know every theoretical aspects mentioned in the classics, observe the same in patients and exercise more on that to master it. So, this subject deals with etiology (hetu), pathogenesis (samprapti),  symptomatology (lakshana), prognosis (sadhyasadhyatwa)  and complications (updrava) of every disease as explained by Brihatrayees.

Department of Dravyaguna Vigyan

Dravyaguna vigyana is a branch which deals with the detailed analysis of guna (qualities) and karma (therapeutic actions) of dravya (food and medicine). Department study the fundamental principles of Ayurvedic raw materials with their application and uses. It covers the study of both anatomical and physical aspect of dravya in the form of pharmacognostical study. It also includes modern pharmacology, crude drug study, field study with practical identification and cultivation of medicinal plants

 

Museum

Museum has a good collection of genuine dry specimens. Wet plant specimens are preserved for practical demonstration for students. Charts and plant photographs with their description are displayed for better understanding of plants. A herbarium collection of plant specimens is kept as a reference material for plant study.

Department of Swasthavritta And Yoga

Swasthavritta and yoga is the branch of Ayurveda which deals with maintenance of Health or Prevention of diseases through healthy life style,proper hygiene, Diet, Yoga & Naturopathy. The emphasis of this department includes the activities like health awareness camps, community health surveys, Yoga camps in the village areas for health promotion and prevention of the diseases, along with the U.G teaching.

Aim:-

A actual strength of Ayurveda is preventive measures and preserve health of people, its first priority of the Swasthavritta department.

  • Deals with various natural and artificial toxic substances and poisons in detail along with their antidotes, signs and symptoms and legal aspects of medical ethics and standards

    Vision:

Department of Kayachikitsa

Ayurveda is having holistic approach towards life mainly concerned with the treatment of body, mind and soul.

Kayachikitsa is the first branch of Ashtanga Ayurveda that deals with general medicine, where kaya means body and chikitsa means treatment.

Kaya also refers to agni and entire Ayurvedic therapeutics is based on the concept of Agni. Correction of Agni is the basic line of treatment for most of the diseases.

Department of Panchkarma

Panchakarma department is a clinical department. It deals with Panchakarma Therepy. The Panchakarma Therapy is unique treatment of Ayurveda to maintain the health and harmony of Body and Mind. Panchakarma is core area of Ayurveda and interlinked  with  Ashtang Ayurveda (Other speciality of Ayurveda). Panchakarma is also having own importance in treating the patient and maintain the health of every person. All Panchakarmas treatment are done with standard operating procedures in the hospital.

·        The Panchakarma Unit provides the full range of classical Panchakarma, Keraliya Panchakarma procedures along with allied procedures like Shirobasti, Shirodhara etc, which are found efficient in the variety of Neurological, Musculoskeletal and Skin disorders like Psoriasis, Eczema etc. There are separately specialised set up for Male and Female Patients.

Department of Shalya Tantra

Introduction:  Ayurveda is the natural healing system of medicine to maintain health of healthy person and cure the ailments ailing person. For that Acharya Sushruta given two main objects 1) To cure diseased person and  2) Prevention of the health in those who are not afflicted with any sort of bodily distempers aracter.  Shalya Tantra is one of the most important branches based on six major principles of management such as Bhai?aja, Kshara-Karma, Yantrakarma, Agnikarma, Raktamoksha?a, Shastra karma. Sushruta has scripted Sushruta Samhita which is a great contribution to the description area mainly the description of Rhinoplasti-Operation, Lithotomic-Operation,Amputation, Ophthalmic-Surgery, Dissection, Practical-Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Surgery and Anatomical Anomalies etc. has its own originality with authenticity contributing to modern medical expertise for present era.

The museum of Shalya department consists of various drug materials which can used as local application many drugs used in ano-rectal disorders. Mannequin’s dummies are aiding students to understand the practical knowledge of various surgical disorders and charts of various diseases given details knowledge of disease’s Patho-physiology and surgical treatments in these diseases.

·        To give knowledge of ancient principles of Shalya Tantra  of Ayurveda in regarding to Surgical and Para surgical procedures in various diseases and betterments of patients is also to be taught during the course .

Department of Shalakya Tantra

Ayurveda is life science which is known for both Preventive and Curative aspect of health.Shalakya is one of the branch of Asthanga Ayurveda, Which deals with the Diseases of Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat, Oralcavity and various kriyakalpa procedures.

The museum of the Shalakya department consists of various drug samples useful in Eye , Ear, Nose , Throat diseases which reveals about specific indications. Models of anatomy of eye, Ear, Nose, Pharynx are aiding students to understand well about detailed anatomy of sensory organs and charts of various diseases gives detailed knowledge of  peculiar patho-physiology of the various Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat, Pharynx diseases.

Prasuti Tantra & Striroga is a significant branch of Ayurveda mainly dealing with child birth /Parturition (Prasuti Tantra /Obstetrics) and Gynecological (Striroga) disorders.

To be the premier department of Prasuti Tantra & Striroga (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) in imparting knowledge of the health of women of all ages and to conduct quality research on community needs.

Department of Kaumarbhritya – Bala Roga

Ayurvedic medicine has gained wide recognition for its contribution to general medicine (Charaka ‘s treatise on Diabetes etc) and surgery (Plastic Surgery and cataract instrumentation of Sushruta). However, less is known to the modern world about its contribution to newborn care, perinatal care, and pediatric care. Although it is known that Newborn and Pediatric care was well described in different texts of Ayurveda, the first exclusive text book of Kaumarabhritya viz. Kashyapa Samhita dated 6thCentury BC.

 The Department of Kaumarabhritya seeks to improve the health of children across India and beyond through excellence in the care of children and families.

The Department also seeks to excel in academics, research and in the education of clinicians and scientists.
